So, what’s our Digital Engineering Vision? Simply put, we'll become a fully digitised bank, by developing a best-in-class digital delivery capability for our colleagues and our customers. But how will we deliver it? By becoming a truly Agile Organisation, our Digital Engineering Agile journey started in October 2020, since then, we have set up new Tribes, new squads, new ways of workings, loads of training sessions and much much more, it’s an exciting time to join the team, what are you waiting for? The Digital Engineering team is part of the wider Digital & Innovation function, and we are responsible for IT solutions that underpin our multi-channel distribution systems which includes our websites, mobile applications, client-server applications as well as our ambitious Cloud migration programme.

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you’ll help shape the technology that powers the Virgin Money products and digital experiences. As part of our growing team, you will be collaborating with team members at all levels to identify and close major gaps in our products. Examples of projects you might work in include moving our digital architecture to the public cloud, build state of the art code pipelines that allow developers to code, verify, and deploy to production 50 times a day. This is a fast paced and exciting role as you’ll be constantly driving improvement and striving for the best.

We’re not just looking for a technologist but for someone who also enjoys engaging and collaborating with stakeholders. We believe in collaboration, with Agile at the heart of everything we do. We aren’t perfect (who is?) so we iterate and improve as we go. We are looking for people who can not only help us continue to disrupt the banking sector but also how we become better at what we do!

Day to day you’ll be…
• Using your SME knowledge and experience of DevOps tools and practices.
• Creating tools that delight our team and accelerate their work.
• Working on problems, with unknowns, analysing the issues, researching and providing POC (Proof of Concept) solutions to propose this as the way forward to the team and internal stakeholders.
• Collaborating with peers daily during workshops and agile ceremonies.
• Coding to a high standard, delivering production ready automation of components of critical systems.
• Automating out repetitive tasks, removing unnecessary human interaction.
• Working with on-premise and public cloud platforms.
• Manging key projects as well as supporting and coaching more junior member of the team

To be successful you’ll need to bring and be…
• A successful and proven track record of working in a similar role, DevOps Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer, Platform Engineer.
• In depth knowledge and experience of building pipelines, git, and Linux operating systems.
• Superb knowledge of Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform and the equivalent public cloud IaC (Infrastructure as Code) technology.
• Good awareness of native mobile application build systems.
• An expert with Microsoft Azure and AWS.
• Good knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration is a plus
• A flair for learning new languages, frameworks, and ideas.
• A natural ability to participate in technical decisions for complex projects.
• Comfortable with the concepts and technologies of a microservice architecture.
• Comfortable working in an agile software delivery framework.
• Able to work under your own initiative on large scale technical challenges.

It’s a bonus if you have…
• Involvement with large scale cloud migrations.
• Knowledge of technologies such as Ansible, Helm, Jenkins, Elasticsearch.
• An understanding of scripting languages i.e. Python, Node.js and Bash scripting.
