We are looking for an experienced Risk Assurance Lead Specialist with in-depth knowledge and expertise of conduct risk, with wider risk assurance knowledge and capability. They will be leading key thematic reviews of areas where the Bank is exposed to conduct risk and responsible for planning, executing and reporting on the outcome of the reviews, and where appropriate overseeing and reviewing the work of the assigned review team. They will require minimal oversight by the Risk Assurance Lead Manager or Senior Manager in the fulfilment of their responsibilities. They identify areas of regulatory exposure and make recommendations to senior management that enable the Bank to mitigate its conduct risks and ensure we remain within appetite.  

Day to day you’ll 

  • Lead thematic reviews (which will be more complex and technical in nature) on conduct risk that assess whether the Bank is delivering appropriate customer outcomes in line with regulatory/FCA requirements and expectations, with minimal oversight required.  
  • When working with other team members on thematic reviews, ensure it is to the right standard and provide coaching and feedback to them where necessary.  
  • Write clear, concise, and balanced reports on the conclusions drawn from the more complex review activity and discuss these with senior management across the business, obtaining agreement to the issues and agreeing timely and effective actions. 
  • Monitor, track and report against issues reported to ensure that these are cleared in accordance with agreed timescales and that the actions have been implemented properly. 
  • Build effective, high value relationships with: 
  • 1st and 3rd Line of Defence assurance teams to ensure alignment of activity and share findings and opinions; and Business stakeholders to ensure the review outputs and actions are focussed on the highest risk areas and issues and opinions ‘land’ well. 
  • Recommend changes to improve the methodology or to policy statements and standards that help to improve awareness and mitigate conduct risk.  
  • Use internal and external information (e.g., assurance reports, loss events data, Financial Conduct Authority enforcement actions, consultation papers, speeches) to proactively identify emerging risks or issues and inform the conduct risk assurance plan. 
  • Maintain awareness of industry best practice developments and technical developments (where appropriate) that influence the regulatory operating environment. 

 To be brilliant you must have ….  

  • An in-depth knowledge and expertise of conduct risk. 
  • Experience within the Financial Services industry gained over a number of years and in a variety of roles.  
  • Experience of working in a compliance, risk or audit function, or first line assurance function. 
  • Track record of building relationships with a variety of senior stakeholders including those outside of direct area of influence. 
  • Experience in producing reports for senior stakeholders (LT level, BRC and FCA), ensuring key messages are presented appropriately for the audience. 

The following would be brilliant...but not essential 

  • Broad knowledge of risk management disciplines and the three lines of defence model. 
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of UK Financial Services Industry. 
  • University degree or qualification in a Risk, Regulatory or Compliance specialism.
