We want to make a difference to our business, to help achieve our ambitious goals in a safe and controlled way. We do this by providing independent assurance over the bank’s key risks, being a trusted advisor on risk and control, and by providing timely and insightful engagement with a commercial focus.

As an Audit Manager, you’ll be a key part of our team, reporting into a Senior Audit Manager as your people leader. You’ll own and develop positive and strong relationships with senior stakeholders and stay close to the activity in their areas. You’ll use your experience and knowledge to really understand the business’ changing risk landscape and ensure our audit activity is effectively targeted and value-add.

You’ll contribute to the strategic thinking and direction of the Audit team, and play your part in developing, leading and delivering our audit plan as part of the wider team.

We're looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual, a real team-player who is ready and able to make a tangible difference to our successful team. In return, we'll train, encourage and reward you. We’ll support you every step of the way to build your experience in an audit role, as part of helping you to build a successful career.

Day to day you’ll be…

  • Developing a great understanding of the business areas you work with and building strong effective, relationships with your key stakeholders and engaging those stakeholders on audit delivery, risk management and the control environment
  • Supporting the development of a relevant, high quality and value-add audit plan for your area. You’ll also work with the wider team to take a “best team” approach to audits for other areas of our annual audit plan
  • Leading and delivering audit engagements to agreed quality requirements and timescales
  • Keeping pace with external regulations, internal audit best practice and any thought leadership in your area
  • Promoting risk management and control awareness through proactive coaching with our stakeholders and development activities in our team
  • Attending relevant committees to keep abreast of changes to the control environment.

There are a few essentials you need to bring…

  • A track record in building and managing stakeholder relationships
  • Problem solving and a desire to find new ways of doing things, with the ability to bring pragmatic solutions into use
  • Critical thinking and the confidence to challenge others to think differently
  • An ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Proactivity to learn and develop, and contribute to the success of the team
  • An ability to work across multiple projects and successfully deliver quality results on time
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to change style to a wide range of people across the bank
  • Proven capability in contributing to insightful opinions.

  • Experience of risk management or assurance, and it would be ideal if you had practical experience in delivering audits or other assurance work
  • This role will be principally focused on how we manage and use data within VM, so we’re looking for you to have a good working knowledge of how data is managed and processed in a financial services environment. You’ll be comfortable talking about databases, data warehouses, ETL processes and application-level controls over data.

It’s a bonus if you have…

  • Knowledge of technology infrastructure and management
  • Knowledge of how data analytics can be used to enhance assurance activity
  • An understanding of the impact of digitisation on banking
  • An understanding of agile ways of working.

We really need you to have the skills and experience listed in the There are a few essentials you need to bring section above, but the rest is just our wish list, so please don’t let that put you off applying, we’d love to hear from you!
