We’re on the lookout for experienced Credit Risk Specialist to join our Unsecured Credit Risk team.  You’ll report into a Credit Risk manager for the relevant portfolio and team, to provide insight and reporting to the Risk Management Leadership Team, Risk committees and the wider business as required, including the Commercial, Finance and Customer Experience teams.   No day will be the same as you collaborate with a range of stakeholders to ensure analysis is providing true insight into risks and opportunities and working independently at times to deliver key objectives.

Your core responsibilities will be analysing credit data, presenting the findings from your analysis, and solving problems by creating solutions from the analysis of data. The main purpose of your role will depend on which team you join; in Portfolio Performance you’ll support the delivery of insight to make recommendations; in the Strategy team you’ll support the identification, design and delivery of credit strategies and policy, within regulatory and risk guidelines. Day to day you’ll:

  • Deliver meaningful insight to allow for informed strategic recommendations to be made by the Credit Risk Manager and Senior Management Team.
  • Work collaboratively with Credit Strategy owners, Commercial and Operational colleagues to identify improvements that maintain regulatory compliance, improve efficiency, or provides additional value to the business.
  • Support the development and delivery of a comprehensive suite of credit risk portfolio insight oversight, challenge, and opinion for use across a range of stakeholders including Central Committees and Governance reporting.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative approach with Risk Appetite Statement, working across other teams in Credit, Risk, and the Commercial areas.
  • Develop and maintain a relationship with the Credit Risk teams at an operational and senior level to ensure that best practice is shared, challenges are raised in a timely manner to constructively shape outcomes and all requests are met.
  • Demonstrate maintenance of our internal Governance frameworks, policies and Regulatory guidelines and ensure this framework is embedded in the business to ensure sound risk practices are adopted.
  • Work under the leadership of the Credit Risk Manager of to support the development of appropriate stakeholder management processes for managing and delivering effectively for internal customers including engaging at an operational level to ensure effective operation of key processes.

There are a few essentials you need to bring … 

  • Significant analytical experience working in highly analytical roles/notable experience in a similar analytical role within the financial sector is essential.
  • Robust Credit Knowledge.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to condense and simplify complex information to brief and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Presence and gravitas with the ability to operate effectively with senior leaders, represent Virgin Money with external stakeholders and stand up to robust challenge.
  • Ability to support multiple priorities in a fast-changing environment, able to prioritise effectively and manage various management expectations, supporting Analysts to do the same.
  • Confidence and drive to change in a positive and collaborative manner and turn ideas into practical solutions
  • Experience in raising new ideas to influence areas of business focus.
  • Willingness to challenge other teams work through meetings and discussion forums.
  • Advanced skills within data mining, manipulation, and summarisation (SAS, SQL etc).
  • Understanding of data structure and credit risk strategies.
  • Experience in provision of independent analytics, portfolio and strategy performance metrics.
  • Experience building strong networks and relationships with internal and external parties.

We'd love you to have (but not essential)...

  • Experience in deputise for senior colleague on smaller projects and less senior meetings
  • Understanding of the Legal and Regulatory framework and agenda, operations of Risk and the wider business
  • Some understanding of the VMUK business model and strategy
