Our Business Banking Control Team are here to enable safe and sustainable growth. We are committed to driving risk excellence and are passionate about proactive risk management in the first line of defence. We are starting an exciting journey to grow our team, and this brand-new role has been created to lead our team who support Controls management alongside our Business Banking colleagues. As a Controls Specialist, you’ll be supporting the delivery of good customer outcomes by ensuring adherence to Credit and Economic Crime policies in a high performing, fast paced team.

What you’ll be doing

  • Plan and deliver quality assurance activity in line with the testing framework and schedule, ensuring scope and sampling align to testing scripts and evidence standards.
  • Use data-led indicators (KIs) to support maintenance of the Business Banking risk profile, including assessing control effectiveness and contributing to residual risk ratings.
  • Execute evidence-based QA and control testing across key Credit Risk and Economic Crime processes.
  • Produce clear, timely reporting for key stakeholders reflecting testing outcomes, issues and risks, building productive working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Identify material issues and monitor business delivery of agreed corrective action plans.
  • Communicate assurance outcomes clearly and concisely, including the significance of findings and the improvements required.  
  • Work closely with the Relationship Management team and 1LOD Risk and Controls teams across the Group.

We need you to have

  • Experience of Risk Frameworks and systems.
  • Experience of controls assurance practices.
  • Significant Financial Services Industry experience.
  • Knowledge of Business Banking Risk with a focus on Credit & Economic Crime risk
  • A passion for understanding customers and ensuring they are at the heart of everything we do

It’s a bonus if you have but not essential

  • Knowledge of VM or NBS risk management frameworks and policies and governance approach.

If you're successful in securing a role with us, there are some checks you need to complete before starting. These include credit and criminal record checks and three years' worth of satisfactory references. If the role is part of the Senior Manager Regime and Certification Regime, it requires enhanced pre-employment checks – we'll ask for six years of regulatory references, and once in the role, you'll be subject to periodic employment checks.
