What you’ll be doing
- Providing independent assurance on the execution of risk strategies and policies, reporting to Senior Management on risk discipline within the Bank.
- Collaborating with Business Credit Risk teams, Commercial, and Operational colleagues to identify risk management improvements, enhance efficiency, and provide business insights.
- Recommending enhancements to risk management practices to Senior Management based on assurance work.
- Ensuring adherence to the Risk Appetite Statement through thematic reviews and oversight of manual lending decisions, aligning with our Risk Management Framework.
- Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders at all levels to share best practices.
- Meeting deadlines and shaping outcomes to serve business needs effectively.
- Upholding internal Governance frameworks, policies, and Regulatory guidelines, embedding sound risk practices in the business.
- Continuously improving processes by delivering the Risk Assurance plan and challenging existing methods.
We need you to have
- Experience in writing or overseeing large business lending transactions, identifying risks, and ensuring they are appropriately mitigated.
- Extensive experience in Business Credit Risk Management, with knowledge of the UK lending markets, business sectors, and macro-economic environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey information clearly and confidently to various levels of seniority.
- Ability to critique and challenge current policies, strategies, and processes effectively.
- Capability to work effectively with senior leaders, represent VM with external stakeholders, and handle robust challenges.
- Proven experience in influencing positive change and turning ideas into practical solutions through collaboration.
It’s a bonus if you have but not essential
- Understanding of the Legal and Regulatory framework and agenda impacting Business lending in the UK
- Strong understanding of the operations of a Risk function
- Understanding of Credit Models, Scorecards and analysis of data through the use of statistical software, e.g., SAS/PowerBI and use if MS Office Suite.

If you're successful in securing a role with us, there are some checks you need to complete before starting. These include credit and criminal record checks and three years' worth of satisfactory references. If the role is part of the Senior Manager Regime and Certification Regime, it requires enhanced pre-employment checks – we'll ask for six years of regulatory references, and once in the role, you'll be subject to periodic employment checks.
