Our Team
The Operational Risk Management Team within Virgin Money is working to change the way we manage risk, making us future-fit and digitally enabled. The team covers a broad range of risk topics: Operational Risk, Digital & Technology Risk, Data Risk, Change Risk, People Risk, Payments Risk and Third-Party Risk.
What you’ll be doing
- Developing a great understanding of the business and building strong, effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels (particularly 1st Line of Defence Risk teams, Audit, Risk Assurance, Compliance, and the wider risk function)
- Supporting the development and delivery of a relevant, dynamic, high quality and value-add assurance plan and produce high quality and informative reports
- Leading a variety of assurance activities and independent testing to assess the design and operating effectiveness of controls for all component parts of operational risk
- Proactively analysing themes and trends from completed reviews to support the development and maintenance of an Operational Risk universe and regularly review assurance plans to ensure that risk exposure drives current and future activity
- Critical and independent thinking and problem solving
- Developing strategies and plans to achieve business objectives whilst working in an Agile manner, striving for new ways of realising an outcome and not being tied to existing processes
- Inputting high quality insight and reporting at all levels, including Board Risk Committee and work with stakeholders, often at a senior level, to embed risk knowledge and adherence
- Maintaining awareness of industry best practice developments and technical developments (where appropriate) that influence the regulatory operating environment.
We need you to have
- Subject matter expertise in a related and relevant area of Operational Risk (Process Design & Execution, Data, Operational Resilience, People, Payments, Digital & Technology, Third Party, Change, Physical Security & Safety)
- Significant experience in Financial Services working in an Operational Risk assurance/audit role, managing and analysing large quantities of complex data and communicating technical and regulatory matters in a non-technical manner
- Work experience in Big four company and/or relevant professional qualification (Project Management, Agile, Technology, Risk Management, Fraud, SOX, Audit, Operational Audit)
- The confidence and independence to communicate, facilitate and influence at senior level, with a proactive and inquisitive mindset
- Experience designing and testing controls, both manual and automated
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience in designing reports for a variety of stakeholders, ensuring key messages are presented appropriately for the audience.

- Educated to degree-level
- Broad knowledge of Risk Management disciplines and the 3 Lines of Defence model in place across the Bank
- Experience of working under the Agile methodology.
