The Treasury Markets team are responsible for managing a range of risks arising from VM’s activities including interest rate, FX and liquidity risks. The team are responsible for pricing and execution of internal hedges with Commercial and then management of these risks into the financial markets to ensure compliance with the Bank’s risk appetite.
This role is an opportunity to be involved in the business-as-usual activities of the team to create greater depth and capability whilst the team expands it’s activities onto other key strategic projects and deliverables.
The role requires a good range of technical knowledge, to understand risk management transactions, financial instruments and the broader financial markets/economic environment. This experience should be combined with a proven ability to understand and complete practical process management using relevant risk management, execution and booking systems ideally including the Calypso Treasury Management System.
This is a market facing role with the expectation that the individual will be able to represent VM externally – building, maintaining and leveraging relationships with counterparts and other key industry bodies. Internally, this person would be seen as a member of a small but knowledgeable Markets team, providing timely information and insight to influence decision making not only in Treasury, but across the bank.
Whilst focused on the BAU risk management and execution elements of the team’s activities the role would likely also provide exposure to the ongoing project and integration role of Treasury Markets.
The team’s day to day responsibilities cover interest rate, FX and liquidity risk management activities and the role holder is expected to demonstrate existing skills and knowledge across these different areas as part of their application.
A summary of your day-to-day responsibilities includes:
- Involvement in pricing, execution and trade booking supporting activities for liquidity, foreign exchange and interest rate risk management. The Treasury Markets team has responsibility for managing the Bank’s risk exposure and liquidity requirements within risk appetite levels and the activities across these can vary each day.
- Monitoring the economic environment and key data such that risk/return trade-offs can be assessed, advising senior management when required.
- Maintaining strong relationships with internal business areas and other stakeholder across BAU and project activities.
- Maintaining and enhancing front office processes, procedures and controls and collaborative working with Operations, ALM, Risk and Finance functions.
- Supporting other ad-hoc projects and financial market analysis to enable the implementation of risk management and strategy.
To be successful for this role you’ll have:
- Significant expertise in Treasury execution role, a related market discipline or some other relevant experience
- Experience of Treasury/Financial markets execution, risk management and booking systems ideally including Calypso and Bloomberg
- An ability to demonstrate initiative and accountability for consistently achieving goals and delivering on expectations.
- An ability to source and use relevant information effectively to identify problems and offer sustainable solutions
- Strong interpersonal skills to support the need to engage with other Treasury teams, Finance, Risk and the Commercial teams
- An ambitious and inquisitive mind set, a desire to learn, develop and adapt to change with an ability to remain composed and focused under pressure

- Understanding of a bank’s balance sheet and customer products and behaviours
- Understanding of banking and treasury activities including the broader trade life cycle processes and key areas of Treasury
