Our Team

The Business Banking Performance team is responsible for a range of initiatives that enable success across the full Business Bank, including; portfolio and performance insights; large lending pricing oversight, colleagues learning and engagement; portfolio strategy and sustainable finance.

You’ll work in an evolving landscape, supporting the team to shape the direction of the Business through supporting on strategic development and the management of the sustainable finance programme for Business – including key commitments to provide 20% of business lending balances by FY27 to transition towards the ‘next economy’.

We will provide the propositions and toolset to help finance the energy decarbonisation (including an ambition for £750m of lending by FY27), and also help businesses across our portfolio understand and reduce their emissions, creating a lending portfolio that is sustainable, in all senses of the word.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting the development of Business Bank environmental sustainability strategy, including ownership for delivery of certain initiatives within the roadmap of actions.
  • Represent Business on the delivery of a strategic ESG data solution for Business Bank – including customer and relationship manager engagement to gain developed knowledge of financed emissions.
  • Managing and escalating of key environmental sustainability controls and regularly monitoring progress of our ESG commitments. 
  • Management of the Sustainable Business Coach product (used by customers), including interfacing with relationship managers and respective 3rd party suppliers.
  • In time, providing sustainable finance advisory capability to network of relationship managers, providing support for larger borrowing customers.
  • Delivery of regular analysis and reporting of market and portfolio trends, such as economic outlook or sector trends. This includes deepening and critical analyses of financed emissions calculations.
  • Support the development of Business Bank lending strategy, including horizon scanning on competitors and their ESG products, targets, and capabilities.
  • Establish, maintain & develop a network of internal stakeholders to promote Business and provide healthy challenge and collaboration.

We need you to have

  • Experience, or an interest in working in sustainability and/or sustainable finance – including a willingness to develop sustainable finance accreditation(s).
  • Strong excel and data analytics skills.
  • Demonstrable experience of working on own initiative, applying an understanding of the deliverables of the role and against ad-hoc requirements.
  • Evidence of supporting strategic development, whether within or Business, broader banking or another sector.
  • Willingness to educate a network of relationship managers on sustainability, and in time, sustainable finance.
  • First class inter-personal skills, coupled with strong influencing abilities and a can-do attitude to keep focussed on delivering the right business outcome.
  • Business Banking background preferred or proven track record in a similar role.

It’s a bonus if you have but not essential

  • Detailed and up to date knowledge of UK financial markets.
  • Experience of communicating complex problems.

If you're successful in securing a role with us, there are some checks you need to complete before starting. These include credit and criminal record checks and three years' worth of satisfactory references. If the role is part of the Senior Manager Regime and Certification Regime, it requires enhanced pre-employment checks – we'll ask for six years of regulatory references, and once in the role, you'll be subject to periodic employment checks.
