Our Team

Our Core Infrastructure as a Service (Core IaaS) team holds a pivotal position in shaping the future of our core IT infrastructure within Virgin Money's Technology Estate.

Responsible for Virgin Money's core infrastructure, our Core IaaS team assumes responsibility for the management of our Mainframe, Storage, Telephony, Network, and Data Centre services that underpin all our technology services.

The role will enhance the existing technical leadership within Core IaaS, ensuring the continued technical governance and strategic shaping of the area, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and innovation in our core infrastructure.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting directly to the Head of Core Infrastructure as a Service (Core IaaS), the Lead Technical Consultant will hold an important position in shaping the future of our core infrastructure within VM’s Technology Estate. 

  • A Technically focused, Senior Technical Leadership role which plays a central role in ensuring that through our Core IaaS offering we continue delivering essential services.
  • A crucial role in defining and executing the strategic vision for our Core IaaS offerings, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and innovation.
  • Collaborate with internal and external parties to provide excellent customer service.
  • Be accountable for technical decision-making within the area, lead on developing and maintaining and maturing the technical capabilities of the team.
  • Be responsible for the introduction of controlled rapid change to the core infrastructure, working with architects and infrastructure designers to ensure that operational requirements are effectively defined and applied in the platform designs. 
  • Identify, analyse, quantify, and communicate technical risk within the bank’s platforms.

We need you to have

  • Around 10+ years proven leadership experience in a Technology Director or similar role and ability to both manage and inspire a team of technology professionals.
  • Experience within one of the following core technologies: Mainframe, Storage, Data Centre management.
  • Proven experience in a technical leadership role, with a strong understanding of modern computing and related technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
  • Experienced in incident management, crisis response and problem resolution.

It’s a bonus if you have but not essential.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Strong programme and project management skills and ability to oversee the implementation of technology projects ensuring they are delivered on time within budget and that they meet the organisations requirements.
  • Strong external network and up to date with latest industry trends, threat and opportunities
  • Advanced understanding of Risk and control frameworks and continuous improvement methodologies.

If you're successful in securing a role with us, there are some checks you need to complete before starting. These include credit and criminal record checks and three years' worth of satisfactory references. If the role is part of the Senior Manager Regime and Certification Regime, it requires enhanced pre-employment checks – we'll ask for six years of regulatory references, and once in the role, you'll be subject to periodic employment checks.
