We’ve an opportunity for a forward-thinking PMO Manager to lead a team of PMO Analysts; governing, enabling and assuring the effective delivery of PMO, to support the delivery of strategic and BAU change in line with the overall objectives of the Change & Delivery function. We deliver projects across a wide range of business areas: whether delighting our customers with new digital features, through to satisfying our auditors and regulators with changes to data and reporting systems. The role in a nutshell

You’ll be responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with a wide range of Stakeholders at all levels, accountable for end-to-end build tracking of intake, cost management, assignment of resource, and management reporting; aligned to strategic goals. Will act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, providing regular updates on portfolio performance and challenges, and will facilitate effective communication between teams, ensuring transparency and alignment. It will be essential the build a strong business partnership with our Strategic Portfolio Management team who develop the tooling and enterprise-wide guidance on methodology and ways of working.
Through collaboration with a wide stakeholder base, you will also support the identification of process improvements, knowledge gaps and training opportunities across Change and Delivery. What you’ll be doing
- Each domain area will be accountable for its own roadmap, strategy, implementation of strategy, and associated expense. The PMO Lead will assist these domains in operating their delivery portfolio.
- Oversee and implement Lean Portfolio Management principles to optimize value delivery, to transform the team which is currently project-led, with clear definitions of value desired and value delivered. VM is trying to move towards a lean portfolio approach where we operate with persistent teams that manage their backlogs to deliver business outcomes.
- Oversee budget planning, forecasting, and variance reporting to maximize financial performance and work with domain leads to ensure strong disciplines of cost control, BAU and investment spend.
- Help manage and align recruitment and resourcing to meet organizational demand effectively.
- Lead, motivate, and develop the team to achieve operational excellence, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to team members to enhance skills and performance.
- Create a culture of continuous improvement, flexibility & effectiveness that makes colleagues, customers and the community happy about their money.
- Ensure policies, procedures and methodologies are embedded and compliance with portfolio practises adhered to across the department in a consistent manner.
- Challenge domain leads to implement industry best practices around flow, capacity planning, prioritisation, for both operational and delivery to establish meaningful value-based metrics.
We need you to have
- Leadership and strong management skills as a PMO Lead or Manager
- Strong track record of providing challenge to deliver improved results
- Understanding of commercial pressures on the bank
- Keen understanding and experience of the structures in operation within the bank
- Experience of financial institutions including key drivers of performance
- Highly effective communication at all levels
- Positive influencing of senior stakeholders
- Project delivery experience of medium to large software development projects
- Operational Risk Management experience with first line controls
- Operations/admin management experience involving accountability for production of regular reports to Board Level audience
- A detailed understanding of product development methodologies
- A detailed understanding of lean portfolio management
- A detailed understand of change methods backed by experience on how to deploy those methods
- An understanding of Digital platforms and Data strategy concepts
- Strong banking commercial skills in driving new revenues and optimising cost
- Broad knowledge of scaled agile theory and practice
