Our Team
We’re expanding the newly formed Customer Selection & Exit Management (CSEM)Team in 1st Line Financial Crime. Our vision is to deliver consistent, high-quality approvals for High Risk Customer/EDD reviews, ensuring compliance with regulations.
This is a unique opportunity to help shape and establish processes from the ground up, focussing on protecting our bank while enabling trusted relationships with our customers. You will lead the way in strengthening our controls for High-risk customer approvals and protecting customers and the bank from individuals who want to use Virgin Money to launder the proceeds of crime.
What you’ll be doing
- Reviewing and approving high risk customer relationships across both retail and business banking by assessing and challenging rationale, and providing high quality well rationalised decisions
- Collating insights and feedback themes from the customer relationships you review and sharing these with colleagues in FC Operations to help them improve on risk assessments.
- Collaborating with senior managers across first and second line of defence to ensure all decisions are consistent with the technical standards for Virgin Money and are regularly reviewed in line with any changes in the regulatory framework
- Maintain your knowledge of our Financial Crime Technical Standards and internal policies and procedures
- Acting as a Subject Matter Expert for high-risk customer approvals within Virgin Money
- Identify process gaps and contribute to the design and implementation of a robust approval framework
- Supporting Continuous Improvement by identifying opportunities to improve processes and controls within the team and wider Bank.
- Partnering with the Exits part of the CSEM team, to provide guidance, coaching and best practice support on complex cases, acting as a point of escalation for complex exit cases.
We need you to have
- A strong background of Financial Crime Risk in banking or financial services, especially Operations and specifically in relation to Enhanced Due Diligence for personal and business banking customers.
- Well-developed decision making and judgement with experience of approving High Risk customer review
- Experience in coaching, mentoring or leading colleagues in a Financial Crime Prevention environment
- Demonstrable experience in using management information (MI) to identify opportunities to improve processes, forecast operational demand spikes and operational volumes.
- Managing risk and control environment, strong customer awareness and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, questioning and listening skills.
It’s a bonus if you have but not essential
- Relevant qualification from International Compliance Association (ICA) or equivalent e.g. Diploma in Financial Crime Prevention
- Experience in one of the following areas,1st Line Control teams, 2LOD Compliance Assurance or Audit.

Although some of our roles allow you to be based anywhere in the UK, we'll need you to confirm you have the right to work in the UK.
If you're successful in securing a role with us, there are some checks you need to complete before starting. These include credit and criminal record checks and three years' worth of satisfactory references. If the role is part of the Senior Manager Regime and Certification Regime, it requires enhanced pre-employment checks – we'll ask for six years of regulatory references, and once in the role, you'll be subject to periodic employment checks.
